■What is “和” (Wa) ?

“和 – Wa” is an ancient way of calling Japan as a country before 7th century.
That is why the Japanese style things are called “和式”(Wa-shiki) or “和風”(Wa-fu) today.
The character  “和” is originally from China, but there are many meanings and how to read this character (Kun-yomi) in Japanese.
For example, those are;

– “和む(なごむ)” (Nagomu) : feel at ease / soothing / melt
– “和らぐ(やわらぐ)”(Yawaragu) : ease / relax / soften
– “和(わ)”(Wa)  of “平和(へいわ)” (Heiwa) : peace
– “和(わ)”(Wa)  of “調和(ちょうわ)” (Chowa) : balance / consistency / harmony
– “和(わ)”(Wa)  as the result of addition

When Japanese say “和の心(わのこころ)” (Wa no kokoro, the heart of Wa),
it includes these meanings
and that is why in Japanese style,
not only the surface of service or product, the heart inside is important at the same time.

Underlying philosophy of ”Exhibition 和(Wa)”, the event of Japanese style products and crafts made in Japan
is this “和の心(わのこころ)” (Wa no kokoro, the heart of Wa).
